This website details emergency treatment and management for patients suffering burn injury. It is intended to better educate health professionals about the science and clinical management of the burn injured patient. It provides the necessary information for the effective and efficient transfer of burn patients in Victoria to specialised burn units, and also the management of minor burns that do not require specialist services.

Clinical care for burns differs from location depending on a variety of factors including patient demographics and resources available. The recommendations contained in these guidelines do not indicate an exclusive course of action, or serve as a standard of medical care. For specific patient questions regarding burn injuries, we recommend consultation with the specialist services at the Victorian Adult Burns Service at the Alfred and/or the Burns Unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

We cannot be absolutely certain of the accuracy of all of the information on this site including information contained in links to our website. Considerable effort has been made to ensure the information upon which the guidelines are based is accurate and up to date. Users are strongly recommended to confirm that the information contained within them, especially drug doses, is correct by way of independent sources. The authors accept no responsibility for any inaccuracies, information perceived as misleading, or the success of any treatment regimen detailed in the guidelines.
